Short Answer
Great question! Safety is our number one priority, our low class size allows us to provide a safe structure as well as maximize swim time. We train our instructors to never be more than an arm's length away from our beginner swimmers and to always face their class. We find that a group setting is perfect for kids that are 3 or older. Seeing their peers perform can be very motivating and taking turns, which incorporates decision making, is a very important part of swim lessons.
The More You Know
Sometimes parents will ask "What if they come off the step/wall?"
We are trained not to be more than an arm's length away from beginners; we are always facing our kids...no back turning! We also have a designated water watcher and Deck Supervisor who help watch. It actually is a great learning tool too about decision making, the child might make that choice and if they do we'll be right there using it as an opportunity to coach/teach a better decision.
