  • Be sure to check out with your Site and let them know how you feel about your training

Skills to Focus On

  • Teach full class
  • Demonstrate different exercises for the same skills
  • Demonstrate appropriate exercises for FOW
  • Demonstrate cross teaching, loud instructions and knowledge of “the why’s”

Trainer

Trainee

First Class 

  • Trainer will be responsible for teaching first class


 

  • Prep the pool prior to class

Second Class

  • Trainee teaches entire class for the rest of the day 
  • Give feedback focusing on highlights listed
  • Mentor, challenge and support

Lead entire class for remainder of shift


 

  • Proactively gather the class and keep everyone busy as they come in
  • Speak loudly and with confidence to get the zen sweeps and introductions done in a timely manner
  • Clear and concise instructions describing what is expected during these activities

Third Class

  • Give feedback focusing on highlights listed
  • Mentor, challenge and support

Focus on:

  • Demonstrate a variety of submersions and swims appropriate to the class
  • Focus on the breath control & buoyancy section
  • Lead your class thru exercises related to the FOW and give them some ” whys”

Fourth Class

  • Give feedback focusing on highlights listed
  • Mentor, challenge and support


 

Focus on:

  • Demonstrate teaching a variety of backfloat exercises appropriate for this class
    • Cross teach as needed
  • Demonstrate teaching rollovers focusing on corrections and praise

Fifth Class 

  • Give feedback focusing on highlights listed
  • Mentor, challenge and support

Focus on:

  • Safety skills appropriate for this class
  • Free time
    • What does this class need to work on that you can address in free play?

Remainder of the Shift

  • What needs to be addressed to build confidence for this Trainee?
  • What do you as a Trainer have in your tool box to share with them?
  • What great before and after story about a LS you’ve taught do you have for them?
  • Don’t be afraid to teach, mentor, challenge and support!


 

  • Do you feel ready to take your own classes?
  • How can we help?
  • Talk to your site after this shift - let them know how you feel and if you would like any support available during your first shift?
  • Do you have the tools you need to take over classes?
  • Do you know how to access the Talent course when you want to review any of the trainings

  • Encourage trainee to participate & learn songs
  • Step work weight bearing, waterfall progressions
  • Gather class zen sweep
  • Use turtle kickboard as your student
  • Learn “Wheels on the Bus” song

Second Class

  • Wall Work: paws on wall, toys, mirrors
  • Back-floating holds, TwinkleTwinkle song
  • Assist trainer as appropriate
  • Learn “London Bridge” song

Third Class

  • Core Work 
    • Prone hold
    • Sit on wall
  • Tummy Time on hippo
  • Observe and ask questions
  • Ask for additional training if you have a BS class on your new shift
