These are tips to make you more effective at delivering reviews to our team. Add your personality to it. Customize it for the recipient’s personality too.

Creating conversation is an important part of this process.

Respect the Evaluation Process

Every teacher should find value in the evaluation process. Whether rookie or veteran, the review is still important!

Prepare for the meeting

  • Review all paperwork ahead of time.
  • Discuss with evaluator(s) as needed - ex. If they received anything below a 7, be prepared to provide some details either from comments or asking the evaluator.
  • Look for inconsistencies such DS #1 gave a 10 and DS #2 gave a 6.

Goals of the Meeting:

  • To slow down and present feedback through conversation since feedback is typically on-the-go during a shift.
  • To provide helpful feedback that the teacher can apply.
  • To review and explain the teaching standards at HFSS. Discuss how they are or are not following those standards.
  • To listen to the teacher’s reflection and help them set a focus on what to improve.

Catch them doing it right!

What do they bring to the team? How can you thank them for adding to HFSS culture? How can you emphasize the importance of that talent/characteristic in the big picture?

Other Talking Points

These are ideas to get started and keep it flowing.

  • Self-evaluation
    • What do you feel you do best? Why?
    • What needs the most improvement? Why? How can we improve the score?
  • Evaluation by DS
    • Discuss the score differences between self-evaluation and evaluation from DS
      • “We scored you a little lower because ______.”
      • “We think you are better at ______ than you think you are☺.”
    • Praise the high points!!!

Review. What is the take away for the teacher?

  • “Keep doing _______!”
  • “Tell me one goal; one thing you want to be more focused on improving.”
  • Thank them for meeting and being a part of the HFSS team.

Share with SS and DS team

  • What focus or goals were set by you and the teacher? Share that with your SS team so we can collaboratively discuss ways to help them improve and keep them accountable.
