PROCEDURE
- Restrict all access to the scene of the incident if blood or bodily fluids are present.
- Ensure all staff members trained in clean-up have proper attire prior to clean-up efforts.
- Clean all areas with an approved disinfectant. Only staff members trained in clean-up should be helping with this.
- Make sure all staff members involved immediately wash their hands with soap and water.
- Make sure any exposed linens and first aid supplies are disposed of in the red biohazard bags.
- Direct all staff members involved to a quiet place and write down their account of exactly what happened, who was present, what was done, etc.
- The designated staff member should complete an Incident Report, gather all information documents from other staff, help collect witness signatures, and provide those to the site supervisor.
- Site Supervisor should notify the family or Emergency Contact for the individual.
- Site Supervisor contact the hospital to check on the condition of the victim if family or hospital allows.
- Take inventory on the first aid kit and record any supplies that need to be restocked.
- Debrief with Staff.
