Clarity about Snack Bar and Kitchen areas - 32nd Street

Hello 32nd St SS Team,

It was brought to my attention that there is discussion around who has permission to be in the areas, what clothing should be worn and what certifications are needed. As usual, there is some black and white and some grey. Some are Maricopa County things and others are HFSS things.

My best advice is don't overthink it and keep it simple:)

I hope this helps bring clarity.

  • Food Handlers cards are required for any staff that prepare and serve customers (a.k.a. "work snack bar"). At HFSS, that includes our SS, FD, Bracelets and SB staff. Also, these folks must go through snack bar training.
  • Food Handlers cards are not required to be in the storage area (aka "kitchen"). Therefore it is treated differently. It is a shared space.
  • To distinguish between "snack bar area" and "kitchen", think of it as..
    • if you turn left, you're in the kitchen.
    • if you turn right, you're in the snack bar area.
    • the 3 part sink is in between - we want people to do their own dishes!
  • Specifically, a question came up around footwear, Shoes are required behind the Snack Bar, however not when accessing the refrigerator, using the microwave, etc. in the kitchen.
  • One final thing is that you must be scheduled on that shift to "turn right". (or be an owner!) If you are not scheduled at that time as SS, FD, Br or SB, you must ask someone else to help you. The folks scheduled on the shift should feel empowered AND be willing to serve others by simply saying "Let me get that for you".

Thank you for wanting FBA and Salt Shaker.
