Short Answer

No, we do not "dunk" swimmers. We do practice controlled submersions. We teach our swimmers visual, audio and physical cues that prepare them for "going under".

REMINDER: We do not submerge Baby Splash swimmers.

The More You Know

We do not dunk children and we take it slow when introducing swimmers to submersions.  If a child is brand new to our program, we generally do not take them under until their 3rd lesson (unless the child initiates his own face in the water) - this lets the kids acclimate to our program, surroundings, other kids and their instructor before we start working on comfort under water.  We find that getting the kids used to the program and facility first makes unders a little less scary and the kids are more receptive to trying. When we begin submersions, we start slowly, especially if kids are nervous. We may only do a total of 3 unders the first time they are submerged, and we will gradually increase that number as they become more comfortable. It's so important for us to present the same skills each week in order for your child to gain mastery. We focus on first on comfort and safety before we really start tackling other swim skills

We do not "dunk" children. We do precise "unders". We count 1-2-3-up and under before submersion so our swimmers begin to learn the cues. This also translates into a very important safety skill where swimmers are not allowed to leave the side until they are invited with the same cue.
