Little Snapper Day 1 Reading

Are you ready to change lives? You are being given the opportunity to open the eyes of so many parents to the incredible capabilities of their children. When they see them learn and explode with confidence, many parents' expectations change as to how much their child can achieve.

During these 5 days of LS training you will be observing and co-teaching (hands on). There are 3 levels, LS1(ages 6 months thru 16 months), LS2 (16 months thru 35 months), and LSA (Advanced 18 months thru 35 months). LSA is for any students who are comfortable underwater with multiple submersions for 3 to 5 seconds and ready to embrace independence in the water with a positive attitude.

These levels are similar in their lesson plans. They span a large range of abilities as the difference in development between a 6 month old and a 35 month old is extreme. However, we have seen 6 month olds who can back-float unassisted, 18 month olds who swim, float, swim across the pool and 35 month old super stars diving to the bottom for rings and mastering propulsion across the pools.

Each day of training will have specific skills to address. You will build on your training as new ideas and skills are introduced. The final classes of each day will give you time to review what has been covered. Your Trainers goal is to teach you the “whys” behind what we do in class and to show you ways to communicate with the parents. They will demonstrate proper techniques, verbiage and skills.

Reminder that Safety is always first at Hubbard

Many students in these levels are not independent, which means they CAN NOT SWIM. There is a temptation to assume that the parent or caregiver is always watching their little one. The instructor is the one responsible for the safety of their students. Keeps an eye on parents who may not be aware that a little one's mouth is underwater or a parent that might want to push too many submersions in a lesson when their student isn’t quite ready.

Your focus for today will be:

  • Learn the Lesson Plan - feel free to refer to your copy during the class
    • The lesson plan should be very similar from class to class.
    • The skills practiced may be different but the flow of the class should be the same.
    • Observe differences in Activities/Drills amongst the 3 Snapper levels. (for example: a LS1 might be working on holding onto the wall, a LS2 might be working on crawling out or wall crawling, and a LSA might be doing wall crawls and bobs with bubbles).
  • Participate in and learn all 3 songs Kids in the Pool, Ring Around the Rosie, Motorboats
    • Grab a kickboard to use as your very own student and participate in the class!
    • Ask your trainer for the specific why’s behind each song
    • Why do we start your training with learning the songs?
      • “Music brings many different learning elements together by developing physical coordination, timing, discipline, confidence, memory, language and imagination. Children who participate in music training learn better.”
